Class Schedule

Wondering where to start? Here's what we recommend:

First, learn how to use your camera with Digital 101.

Next, get the basics of photography with Create-It Photography.

Then take everything you've learned and push your skills further with more advanced classes like Digital 102, or learn Creative Lighting. You can even take it outside with one of our field trips!

Please note: Class sizes are limited. You may sign up for a class and/or check availability by calling our Reno store at 775-826-6488.

Don't see the class you want? 1 on 1 tutoring is now available. $75.00 for 1 hour, by appointment only. Call 775-826-6488 to schedule.

Skills Improvement Workshops

A new series of classes will debut this Spring at Gordon's Photo Service! Welcome to The Skills Improvement Workshop Series. Each class will consist of two meetings. The first will be a lecture on a particular subject The second will be a critique of the students assignment.

  • Learn to see and photograph with natural light
  • Using different colored reflectors, gobos and backgrounds will be discussed

        Digital Photography 101 - SLR Cameras - Reno

        Digital Photography 101 - Point and Shoot - Reno

        If you're new to digital cameras, this is the class for you.

        Don't be intimidated by your digital camera. In this class you'll see how fun and easy digital photography can be. Bring your camera with you (battery should be fully charged) this class is hands on.

        • Basic features of your camera: what the icons mean, what features your camera has and how to access them
        • Tips to get the most out of your camera & take better pictures
        • Downloading: how to get the pictures out of your camera and into your computer; and learn where they go and how to find them!

        Digital Photography 102 - Beyond Basics - Reno

        For SLR Cameras Only

        This class will teach advanced shooting techniques available only with Digital SLR or Point & Shoot cameras with manual controls. Students must have an understanding of their camera; it is recommended that they take the Digital 101 class offered at Gordon's.

        - Using selective focus for controlling and increasing a photo's impact
        - Advanced techniques for improving the use of flash

        Photoshop Elements 1: The basics

        Learning Photoshop can be really frustrating. What do all those terms mean? And why is it that it always looks different on your screen than in the picture or on someone else's computer? We have the solution for you! In this hands-on class you'll learn on YOUR computer and YOUR pictures.

        • Import Images
        • Organize and Catalog your photos
        • Find the images by "Keywording"
        • Image storage
        • Cropping, leveling the horizon, sharpening, saturation, and more

        Bring your laptop (with either Elements 9 or 10 installed) and a memory card with a few of your images on it.

        Photoshop Elements 2: Intermediate

        After learning the basics of Photoshop Elements you'll be ready to dive into image processing. This class will cover techniques such as:

        • Selective sharpening and blurring
        • Layers and levels
        • Curves and cloning

        • Exporting for a variety of needs.

        As with the Elements 1 class you'll learn on YOUR computer and YOUR pictures. Bring your laptop (with either Elements 9 or 10 installed) and a memory card with a few of your images on it.

        Create-it Photography

        Location: Gordon's Reno

        March 20,22, 27 & 29 - 6:30 to 9:00 PM

         

        This 4 night class is full of tips and techniques to help you create photos on a higher level by (1) classroom lectures to give you a foundation (2) photo assignments for "hands on" learning and (3) photo critiques give you feedback and develop your "photographer eye."

        Learn how to:

        • Control and capture motion, movement and sharpness with shutter speeds
        • Get creative, artsy photos by combining shutter, aperture and ISO
        • Control the focus of your photos by using depth of field
        • Know when not to trust your light meter and how to get a great shot without it
        • Pick the right lenses and filters to create the shot you want
        • And you'll LOVE the field trip where you can ask questions as you shoot!
         

        This class does not teach you how to use your camera, but how to create great photos with ANY camera. You will get the most out of this class if you have a camera capable of manual settings to adjust aperture and shutter speeds.
